Getting started

Section 211 of the Land Transport Act 1998 provides any person with the opportunity to request a Traffic Crash Report (TCR) held by the New Zealand Police.

Any request for a TCR from a person not directly involved in the crash is subject to release provisions outlined under the Official Information Act 1982.

You can expect the information to be made available unless there is good reason to withhold it.

Things to note before making your request

If you were directly involved with the crash or a recorded witness or informant, or making a request on behalf of someone involved in the crash, please use this form:

If you are requesting information about a non-traffic crash related incident, or more information than a TCR, please use this form:

NZ Police requires some personal details to process your request:

  • To deliver a response to your request, we ask for an email address or postal address. You are not required to provide any other information sought on this form but it may assist Police in processing your request.
  • To contact you if we need to clarify your request, it would be helpful if you provide a phone number.
