Home safety checklist

New Zealand is one of the safest places in the world but unfortunately burglaries can and do occur. There are some simple things you can do to protect you and your home.

Below is a list of quick questions relating to home safety.

Once you’ve answered them we’ll email you a few simple tips that can make you and your property safer.

Do you have secure locks on all your entrance doors, windows, garages and sheds?
Do you always lock your windows and doors when you go out (even to the back yard etc)?
Do you have an alarm system at your home?
Do you put your valuable items out of sight from anyone looking into your house, garage or shed when you go out?
Can people see your home clearly from the street? Are your trees and shrubs trimmed, so windows and doors are visible from the street or by your neighbours?
Do you have external security lighting at the front and rear of your home? Do your entry and exit doors have adequate lighting?
Do you belong to a Neighbourhood Support group?
